Adventures of a Makeup Junkie: Do Makeup and Outdoor Activities Mix?

I'm flying to BC next Tuesday (my first trip on a plane since before I was prego!) and I'm VERY excited! We'll be visiting my mother-in-law in what's referred to as the beautiful "Sunshine Coast". There will be lots to do including kayaking, canoing, hiking, and mountain biking. For the most part, I'd probably say I'm 85 % city girl and 15 %
outdoor-camping-roughing-it kind of girl. I much rather prefer stilettos over hiking boots and consider going without mascara as "roughing it". Sounds high maintenance, but I'm really not - I swear! I just like to look put-together in every situation. And although canoing is not my first choice of fun, I'm very open to new experiences.

As a child, my family wasn't really the camping type. The last time I did anything camping related, I was in grade school. Don't get me wrong - we won't be sleeping in tents or anything but in a beautifully renovated home just off the water. But cute flats or wedge sandals just won't cut it. Since I'm fairly new to the whole kayaking-hiking-canoing thing, I'm a little unsure if wearing makeup is a faux pas. This is my question to you - would you wear makeup while doing outdoor activities?

Here are the products I'm thinking about rockin' while canoing along the coast:

CoverGirl LashBlast Volume Blasting Water-proof Mascara in Very Black: After rave reviews of the original formula, I was very bummed that my lashes went limp instead of lush and full. But I decided to give the water-proof version a try on recommendation of Arianne (thanks girl!). Well, I think my lashes have found a new love! I was fully committed to L'Oreal's Voluminous Waterproof mascara but I have moved on. I LOVE the results my lashes get - voluminous, super-long, lush non-smearing lashes! Mascara always manages to make you look polished without over-doing it with lots of shadow.

Tarte Cheek Stain in Tipsy and Flush: I know I'll probably get a natural flush from all the physical activity but a little help doesn't hurt right? I love Tarte's cheek stains because they give you a natural flush and stay put. Tipsy is a nice sheer coral-peach and Flush is a sheer berry. I like to have choices so I'll bring both. :)

Juice Beauty Lip Trio: SPF 15 Tinted Lip Moisturizers: I think when you're working out it's important to not look done up. These tinted lip balms are the perfect choice especially for outdoor activities. These lippies give you sun protection, moisture, and a natural tint of colour that goes on like a lip stain. My favourite is Delightful, a deep berry shade that makes your lips looks like you've been getting some serious snogging action.

So, would it be too much to also add a bit of YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch under the eyes, Cargo's blu_ray High Definition Mattifier for an even complexion without adding foundation and to double as a mattifier, and my Benefit Hoola Bronzer for a matte sun-kissed glow? I would love to hear what you think and if there's anything else you'd recommend please let me know!

Beauty Review: Pop Beauty Lip Lust

Pop Beauty, known for its wild and fun but wearable colours has sizzled up the summer with lip loving lip tints called Lip Lust ($13 USD)! If you love the idea of a tinted lip balm in a lipstick form then Pop Beauty's Lip Lust has you covered with four fun shades: Naughty Red (sheer strawberry red), Dewy Toffee (light peachy-nude), Flirty Fuchsia (sheer pink fuchsia), and Petal Pink (sheer pale pink).

I've been wearing Flirty Fuchsia. I love any fuchsia lip colour. The lip tint goes on sheer but has a really great colour payoff. Apply one layer and you get a nice hint of colour. Apply it again for a lip popping effect. It really is moisturizing and feels like I'm not wearing anything. Lip Lust also contains lip plumping properties to fill in lines and plump the lips. I love the cute compact case it comes in. Perfect for little purses. I also read that it is infused with natural food flavourings for a yummy taste but I don't experience this. In fact, my only complaint would be the taste. Do you remember your first cheap lipstick like Wet 'n Wild you bought? The waxy flavour reminded me of when I was a little girl. I don't know if maybe I received a dud but I prefer either no flavour or a yummy flavour. All in all, when I'm in a rush and want a bit of colour to hydrate my lips this isn't a bad choice to swipe on.

Have you tried Lip Lust? Love it? Hate it?

Beauty Review: CAUDALIE Skincare

If you’re looking for a natural skincare regime, CAUDALIE is a must. The line comes straight from France where the vines grow lush with grapes that produce not only delectable wine but are also powerful enough to help fight aging and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Out of all the products I have tried from the CAUDALIE line, I love each and every one of them. Here are a few of my faves: (just so you know my skin is pretty dry, occasionally oily on my nose, but for the most part dry)

For those days when you are super tired (which means everyday for most of us), the CAUDALIE Cleansing Water ($15-$29) removes impurities in seconds. Just soak a cotton pad and wipe your face until the cotton pad is clean, no need to rinse. This is a great makeup remover, cleanser and toner all in one.

The CAUDALIE Gentle Cleanser ($32.50) is a milk cleanser that can be tissued or rinsed off. I like the look of my skin after I use this because it looks extra hydrated and feels super soft. I prefer to use this only at night so it can hydrate my skin while I sleep.

The CAUDALIE Instant Foaming Cleanser ($13-$32.50) is really, really nice. The foam is airy and works right into the skin giving you a nice squeaky clean feeling. It works for all skin types but I think it's probably best for normal to combo.

The CAUDALIE Beauty Elixir ($19-$62.50) is one of the many products I’m hooked on. It sets makeup, refreshes, hydrates, tones, adds radiance and is basically the perfect wake-me-upper. A few friends say it smells like medicine, but I love the smell, it reminds me of a cozy, relaxing day at the spa.

Last but not least, the one moisturizer I will shrivel up and cry without, the CAUDALIE VINOSOURCE Anti-wrinkle Nourishing Cream ($61). It is so amazing and does wonders for dry skin - no more flaking, no more uncomfortable tightness, no more bland looking skin. I have tried many, many, many moisturizers and this is one that I cannot live without. Only thing, it's a bit pricey but my justification is: what's the point of having nice makeup when you don't have great skin, right? In my books, it's worth every penny.

Has anyone tried the CAUDALIE line? What do you think?

Now all I need is a nice glass of wine :)

I can just picture Tyra Banks from America’s Next Top Model saying to her models “don’t let that sexy, naked man out shine you!” I love the high fashion mixed with retro ‘80s - the pop of colour really works. Her frizz-less, ultra bouncy curls and flawless makeup bring the whole look together. Love it!

Beauty Review: Summer Beauty Essentials for Fun in the Sun

In a perfect world we would be able to do whatever we wanted to our skin and hair no matter what the weather. Then what would my life be without beauty products??? I started noticing last year that my skin was becoming really sensitive to products with an SPF. It started out with face and body moisturizers and then I noticed some tinted moisturizers were making me react. My face would get red, itchy, and bumpy. I had a few rashes on my arms that turned into blisters last summer from a Neutrogena tan enhancing moisturizer with an SPF 20. After I stopped using it, my rashes disappeared (thank god!). I've been weary about using products with an SPF, up until now. (If you experience allergic reactions from SPF check out Savvy Skin's article on Burning Skin Care Ingredients.)

I know I'm committing a beauty offense, but I just started using sun protection on my face a couple of weeks ago! I've tested a few SPF moisturizers and tinted moisturizers this summer and I've finally found a winner with L'Occitane en provence Sunscreen Veil High Protection SPF 30 Face/Eye ($30 CAD)! This is part of a new sun care line fully made in Brazil. Made from a 100% mineral sunscreens and Brazilian organic vegetable oil from the palm-tree Buriti, which is incredibly concentrated in the anti-oxidant beta-carotene. It is light-weight and has a velvet matte finish. In the most humid weather, I don't even feel it on my skin. A little goes along way - you only need 1 pump. It goes on white but once massaged into the skin the colour disappears (be sure to apply before makeup). I love the compact bottle because you take it anywhere and reapply as needed. I'm glad my skin is getting some much needed sun protection without the burning itchy rash!

My skin doesn't usually burn. On Canada Day we were out the whole day in the beating hot sun without an SPF on my body. The next day to my surprise, I experienced my first burn on my neck and chest. It wasn't painful, but annoyingly itchy and hot. Thanks to L'Occitane After-Sun Balm Lotion ($26 CAD), the burn did not last long. It has a nice light scent and instantly cools and soothes the skin. It's non-greasy and doesn't clog the pores. Can be used on both face and body. This after-sun lotion is formulated with organic vegetable butter of Cupuacu, an ingredient that intensely hydrates and regenerates the skin after sun exposure. Tip: For a more cooling effect, place in the refrigerator.

The drugstore is usually my resource for hair care. It's rare for me to spend a lot on hair products even with all the rave reviews of the higher end brands. Ojon's 5 Piece Shine & Protect Hair Ritual Kit ($50 USD) is making me sing another tune. This rescue kit contains Restorative Hair Treatment, Shine and Protect Shampoo, Shine and Protect Conditioner, Shine and Protect Glossing Mist, and Leave-in Glossing Cream. It is the ultimate protection against thermal styling, the sun and environmental damage. I love the Leave-in treatment and the Glossing Mist! My hair is healthier, shinier, and less frizzy. A definite must for beautiful hair any time of the year!

Have you tried these summer beauty essentials? Love it? Hate it? Happy shopping!

Beauty Icon: Indian Goddess Aishwarya Rai

With the Unforgettable Tour making its mark on Toronto last weekend, who better to make the Beauty Icon of the Month then Aishwarya (Ash) Rai. As I’m sure most of you know, Bollywood is taking the world by storm! The vibrant outfits, extravagant jewelry and beautiful stars make it hard not to drool. And, with Aishwarya Rai being the most recognized female face in all of Bollywood, she has the ability to influence millions.

Aishwarya, winner of Miss World '94, has graced her presence in many Bollywood films and has recently entered the Hollywood industry with roles in Bride and Prejudice and the upcoming Pink Panther 2. Her signature bluish-green eyes draw you in and make you want to know more – all I have to say is stunning!

As one of the faces of L’Oreal, Ash had the chance to create a unique L’Oreal Lipstick shade, Aishwarya’s Beige, it's subtle and soft and works with most complextions (available at most retailers). She was also named Top 100 in the 2004 edition of Times Magazine.

Her look comes effortlessly- in lavish saris adorned with embroidery and jewels, flowing gowns or fitted jeans with a cute tee - Aishwarya has the confidence and ability to make any room come to life. With thousands of images of her, it was hard to choose just a few, but these are by far my fave and manage to show every side of this Indian Goddess.

How cute are her and her adorable hubby?!

Makeup Obsession: Cargo blu_ray Collection

With the zillions of beauty products out there, I still manage to get obsessed over products. Some obsessions are fleeting but others quickly become staples in my makeup stash. Back in January when Cargo's blu_ray collection launched, I was intrigued but very skeptical. You can read about it here. Then in February at a Sephora grand opening I got to play around with it but only on my hand. The powder looked chalky, the blush didn't show, and the gloss quad seemed like any other gloss. I concluded that it was just a lot of hype.

It is rare that I'll gush about a product after I've already written it off. Well now I'm obsessed with the entire blu_ray collection! I've been using it on myself, on Ali for ChickChat TV, and on a few brides and the results are flawless. The hi-def collection is designed to make you look flawless in any light, from your office to the bright summer light. The line was created for makeup artists working in television and film where every flaw is magnified and heavy coverage would be too noticeable. Blu_ray gives you natural, flawless coverage for everyday wear using Photochromatic pigments (automatically colour corrects makeup to be consistent in any lighting) and optical blurring (fills in lines and wrinkles, reflects light to camouflage imperfections without glitter or shine).

Cargo blu_ray High Definition Mattifier ($24 USD): This has become my makeup primer of choice. This oil-free mattifier refines pores, minimizes fine lines, and mattifies the skin! Sometimes this is all I need (besides my under eye concealer) when I leave the house. My skin looks so flawless and feels so smooth after I apply it. The texture feels like silicone so the makeup just glides on. I've tried many primers that claim to mattify the skin but this is the only one that truly does. My Smashbox Photo Finish Primer is pretty good but I do find at the end of the day my nose ends up shiny. Cargo's HD mattifier keeps my skin shine-free and my makeup on all day. You can also use this in place of a translucent setting powder - just apply over your makeup for a shine-free finish! Less products to use at home and on set!

Cargo blu_ray Pressed Powder ($30 USD): When I introduce this powder to clients I jokingly brag about how it's HD. They "ooohhh" and "awww" and laugh it off but when they see the results they really "ohhh" and "awww". The first time I had tried it, I patted the powder onto my hand with my finger. The neutral beige powder looked chalky on my skin tone and I decided it wasn't worth all the hype. Now that I've had the chance to really work with it using my lovely brushes, the results are just gorgeous. Every time I wear it, my skin looks like it's been photoshopped! The skin looks soft and youthful thanks to the optical blurring and the Photochromatic pigments make you look flawless when photographed in natural light or flash. It also colour corrects redness without applying heavy correctors. If you want a radiant, natural finish without shine or shimmer this powder is it!

Cargo blu_ray Blush/Highlighter and HD Blush in Peach ($28 USD): The original universally flattering pinky-peach shade is a blush and highlighter in one. The velvelty formula is oil-free and contains the same properties as the pressed powder giving you the same flawless, radiant effect. I love using this shade on brides because it gives the "blushing bride" effect.

Beauty scoop: Launching this September a new shade in Peach will join the original!
This soft peach shade warms up the skin giving you a healthy glow. I especially love layering this over top of bronzer (good tip for darker skin tones). Both shades are neutral and work with any look. These two shades are all that I've been wearing lately! But I won't be giving up my other blushes just yet ;)

Cargo blu_ray Lip Gloss ($29 USD): Sometimes a gloss is a gloss and that's exactly what I thought about Cargo's HD version when it first launched. I never really gave it a fair chance since I didn't dare try it on my lips at the Sephora store. Now that I've been able to wear it on my lips and have others try it, I do see the difference compared to other glosses. Transparent pearl pigments provide an even colour payoff at any angle (just turn your head from side-to-side) and hyaluronic acid spheres and a peptide chain plump lips and smooth out lines. The quad includes a sheer plum, sheer peachy-pink, sheer rose, sheer golden beige and each can be worn on their own or mixed together for a custom colour. The texture feels like a lip balm and has a subtle minty flavour. The shades are pretty sheer so they look very natural and wearable for everyday but if you'll be taking photos or going out in the evening I'd use a lip liner to bump up the colour. I like to use the lighter shades over top of the darker ones to give the lips a nice highlight. Your lips will look great any time especially in photos or on camera. I hope they come out with another quad with some reds or bright pinks!

Beauty Scoop: Cargo blu_ray Concealer ($28 USD): This won't hit the market until this September but I got the inside scoop on this fabulous product! Water-proof, water-resistant, and wrinkle fighting, this concealer does it all! This pen style with sponge-tip applicator contains light -diffusing pigments that provide flawless coverage while looking completely natural. If you're looking for less expensive and painful alternative to Botox, this HD concealer contains Visilox which studies show is an excellent alternative. It brightens, lightens, and tightens! I'm still unsure if more shades will be launched because I find it's a little too light for the rest of my face. It's perfect for my under eye area though. For hard to cover areas, use your finger to build coverage by pressing and patting the product.

Beauty Scoop: Cargo blu_ray Polishing Cloths ($15 USD): We all know if your skin isn't up to par, your makeup just won't look right. These cloths are the ultimate skin primer, made of nano-scale fibers (thinner than human hair), exfoliate the skin's surface for gorgeous, glowing skin. Use these cloths 1-2 times a week with your favourite cleaner, scrubbing each section in a circular motion. You can literally see dirt, dry skin, black heads, and white heads slough off your face onto the cloth! It's gentle enough for sensitive skin. The bonus - these cloths are reusable! Be on the lookout come September when these cloths launch!

What's your latest beauty obsession? Have you tried Cargo's blu_ray collection? Love it? Hate it? Happy shopping!

Beauty Review: Summer Fun With Nars

Shall I gush more about Nars? If you haven't noticed, this summer is all about colour. Colour on your eyes, colour on your lips, and colour on your nails - and not necessarily all at the same time. When I received Nars' Duo Eyeshadow in Bysance and Sheer Lipstick in Nouba I thought it couldn't be a more perfect palette for some summer fun!

Nars Duo Eyeshadow Bysance ($24 USD): I adore this duo of shimmering marigold and iridescent iris together. At first glance, these pretty brights might scare you away but when swiped over the eyes gives a sheer wash of colour. For summer, you want to wear colour but you don't want it to look heavy which is why Bysance is such a perfect choice. Each shade is buildable so if you want to go more intense at night you can. Both can be worn anytime of the day. For day, I like to swipe the marigold across the lid and on the inner bottom corner. Then, I use a damp liner brush with the iris shade and apply it as a liner. For night, play up your looks by swiping the iris shade all over the lid, into the crease, and the bottom lash line. Apply the gold in the inner corner to make the eyes pop. Smudge some black liner into the lash line and in the waterline for a bit of smolder. Finish eyes with lots of mascara.

Nars Sheer Lipstick Nouba ($24 USD): When you wear bright colours on the eyes, you want to keep your lips soft but not totally pale. Absolutely pale lips will wash you out and don't balance the overall look. Nouba, a ginger with shimmer, is lovely and neither too pale or too dark for this colour palette. The texture wasn't as sheer as I expected and applied more like a semi-matte. I don't usually go for lipsticks that have a shimmery or frosty finish but this one makes the lips sparkle without having to apply gloss. It's a warm neutral that can go with any look.

Happy shopping! Have you tried these products from Nars? Love it? Hate it?

Beauty Review: Summer Flush With Nars Blush/Bronzer Duo!

I don't know what it is, but every time I open up a new Nars product my heart does a little flip. The combination of beautiful colours, fantastic textures, and sleek and chic packaging will do that to you. When I first learned of the "everyone must have this" Orgasm blush, I just had to have it. It was pretty, but took a few swirls to show up on me. I kept it anyways because I knew it would be gorgeous on my fair-skinned clients - and it is. I had heard rave reviews of Laguna blush but wasn't in a hurry to buy a new bronzer.

When I had the chance to try Nars Blush/Bronzer Duo in Orgasm/Laguna ($37 USD) I was excited, but knew I probably wouldn't use Orgasm on myself. Laguna bronzer is ideal for fairer skin tones, but the golden bronze shimmer (no orange muddy mess) actually shows up on me. It seems the only place I'm getting sun on my face is my nose so the rest of me is pretty fair. Sin/Casino blush/bronzer duo is better for darker skin tones and would probably work on me too. I decided to give Orgasm another try and this time the peachy-pink shimmer actually showed up on me. Using Laguna as my base deepened the blush colour and gave me a beautiful summer flush. My skin looks bronzey and glowy just the way I like it. I love the sleek compact with the huge mirror - thin enough to keep in your purse and the mirror is big enough so you can see your whole face. I also love having a combination of blush and bronzer together. When you're in a hurry, you want everything in one place and don't want to carry a lot around with you. Convenience and the perfect summer flush? A match made in heaven! Happy shopping!

Adventures of a Makeup Junkie: Hair Care

I would do anything in the name of beauty. When it comes to trying out homemade beauty recipes I’m totally up for it. How many of you have read those articles in fashion mags on how to achieve healthy, shiny looking hair by mixing together a few ingredients right from your own kitchen? I remember trying out a few of them and thinking I would never do it again. The banana honey hair mask: mash a ripe banana, add some honey and apply to damp hair. All I have to say is YIKES! I found chunks of banana tangled in my hair weeks later. When I said I would never do it again, I didn’t mean it. I also tried the egg conditioner which was a bit iffy. I love to take boiling hot showers and the last thing I wanted to find is scrambled egg in my hair! But of course I tried it and it stunk!

So, after searching high and low I’ve finally found the perfect solution for dry, colour treated, frizzy hair without playing the role of a chef. It’s Ojon’s Restorative Hair Treatment, ($25-$70).

It doesn’t look the greatest, kind of like creamed honey and smells quite strong but let me tell you, it works. If you’re looking for shiny, manageable, healthy, strong hair you have to try this. Unlike most treatments, you apply this to dry hair and you don’t need a lot because it’s very concentrated. You can leave it in for 20 mins or overnight depending on how damaged your hair is and then follow with a deep cleansing shampoo. Oh and it’s made from 100% Ojon palm nut oil, so if you’re allergic to nuts, please avoid. Every time I use this I get tons of compliments. If you've tried it, let me know what you think.

I'm curious to know, have you tried any homemade beauty recipes?

Beauty Feature: Mani/Pedi Rescue Products for Summer

I'm notorious for dry hands, chipping nails, and tired cracked heels. I'm constantly washing my hands and constantly chasing after a 2 year old. With all the hot neon nail colours hitting the shelves this summer, you've got to keep your hands and feet in tip-top shape. Here are some products to keep your hands and feet summer-ready!

Manicure Rescue:

Nailtiques Cuticle & Skin Gel ($4-15 USD): Love it! Nailtiques Cuticle & Skin Gel is a thick concentrated glycerin and aloe enriched formula that conditions and penetrates deeply into the skin. Ever since I've started using this, my hands feel super soft and my cuticles crack less preventing those nasty hang nails. You can also use this on rough elbows and knees. Perfect for nail biters. Apply sparingly and massage into dry areas. I use this every time I give myself a manicure. Pushing cuticles back is a piece of cake now!
Nailtiques Cuticle and Hand Conditioner ($4-15 USD): I carry this in my purse at all times. Nailtiques Cuticle and Hand Conditioner is a highly concentrated combination of pure aloe and jojoba oils that rehydrates and conditions the hand and cuticle area. It softens the cuticles and skin without softening the nails. It's non-greasy and absorbs quickly into the skin. This tube of magic is portable and great for applying throughout the day anytime your hands need a pick-me-up.

Nailtiques Pink and Green Sponge File ($5 USD): I love products that are portable and don't add extra pounds to my purse. These little files come in a pack of 10 so you can keep one handy just about anywhere you are. The green side safely shapes nails without creating splits. The pink side is beneficial when patches are necessary, as well as for the removal of stains and/or ridges from the nail surface. This little emery board files my nails quickly and perfectly. Use before you apply any polish.

OPI Retro Fun In The Sun Collection: I am loving the brights and the bolds of this summer's hottest hues! OPI's Retro Fun In the Sun summer collection is fun, flirty, and totally retro! My favourite right now is "Lemondade Stand by Your Man", a bright yellow-gold with a metallic finish. If you're scared to wear bright colours on your face then have fun with colour on your nails! You'll get noticed for all the right reasons. ;)

Nailtiques Non-Acetone Remover ($2-6 USD): When it's time to switch up polish colours, you want to make sure your nails are free of old polish before applying another. Nailtiques Non-Acetone Remover is an acetone-free formula that is extremely gentle for both nails and skin. This remover contains aloe and conditioners so your nails and cuticles are never dry or brittle.

For more information on Nailtiques visit www.nailtiques.com .
For more information on OPI products visit www.opi.com .

Pedicure Rescue:

Jessica ZenSpa Intense Heel Repair Creme ($16.95 - 39.95 USD): This has become my go-to moisturizer for dry cracked heels. My feet feel instantly smooth and rejuvenated. It also has a nice light ginger fragrance to it. A little goes a long way so this tub of moisturizer will last you for a long time. I never leave the house without applying it. My feet have never looked so good in sandals!

Jessica ZenSpa Blissful Calming Green Tea Bath ($6.25 - 49.95 USD): This foot soak is supposed to refresh, rejuvenate and revive tired, aching feet. How nice does that sound?! So, to pamper myself, I poured a little ZenSpa Blissful Calming Green Tea Bath into a square bucket of warm water. I actually tried it while sitting outside, under our new gazebo to make my spa experience that much better! The scent is just the right intensity and smells very spa-like. It foams just a little bit, which is nice and easy to manage. The directions say to put a generous amount, but I noticed that a little goes a long way. I did notice it was somewhat oily. I’m sure this is to help moisturize, but not sure that I love this. After my feet dried, I decided not to moisturize because of the oiliness but within a few minutes they were feeling dry. Just apply the Heel Repair Creme and your feet will be feeling supple in no time!

Jessica ZenSpa Refreshed Green Tea Calming Foot Spray ($6.25 - 14.95 USD): The spray has natural botanicals and menthol that instantly stimulate and revive tired, aching feet leaving them fresh and rejuvenated. I thought the spray smelled soo nice. I like to spray this when I’m in my room so the scent lingers. However, I didn’t notice anything else with this besides the calming scent. I also expected the price to be less expensive than the foot soak but an 8 ounce bottle is the same price. But on a hot day, a little spritz of this does feel nice and cools the feet!

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear ($2.99 - 4.99 CDN): I love finding beauty steals and Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear is one of them! They come in so many bright summer-ready shades! This polish glides easily and evenly. It's also DBP, Toluene, and Formaldehyde free. The polish is long-lasting and remained chipped-free for over 7 days. My absolute favourite shade right now is the limited-edition polish in "Psychedelic Purple". It's a bright, metallic polish that is absolutely gorgeous on the toes and your fingers!

Happy shopping!

Makeup Tips With CoverGirl Celebrity Makeup Artist Molly R. Stern!

I had the pleasure of listening in on a CoverGirl webinar with CoverGirl celebrity makeup artist, Molly R. Stern. She shared some wonderful tips and makeup looks using the new Cover Girl Eye Enhancers in Blast and Enhance. Blast shadows offer bright and bold colours while the Enhancers go on sheer but can be layered for intensity. Her techniques for applying shadow included patting the shadow on with a brush for building and layering (a technique I like to do as well) and using your fingers to blend. Molly loves to use her fingers along with brushes for applying makeup - after all they are nature's natural tools.

Blazing Eyes using Dazzling Metallics 3-Kit:
Crease and bottom lash line - Copper shadow
Lid - Gold shadow
Liner on top- Black shadow using a damp brush for a creamy paste effect and smudged into lash line.
Mascara: LashBlast in Very Black
Blush - Pink shadow from the 3-Kit Fire Cracker set. Multi-use is always a plus - be creative!
Lips - Amazemint Lip Gloss in "Red Riot". Freshens the breath using Crest Mint Oil. This colour is one of my favourites. Goes on sheer so I suggest layering for more colour or use over top of a lipstick. Non-sticky texture and feels like a lip balm.

Caribbean Eyes using 4-Kit in Tropical Fusion:
Lid - Turquoise shadow and Lime/Gold shadow smudged over top to soften the turquoise.
Liner top/bottom - Blue shadow used wet smudged into top and lower lash line
Mascara - LashBlast in Very Black
Cheeks - Peach shadow from Tropical Fusion
Lips - Amazemint in "Happy Hour" - looks like a crystal blue but goes on a pretty clear gloss with blue tones to make teeth look whiter.

Smoldering Forest Eyes using 1-Kit Shades:
Lid/Crease/Bottom Lash Line - Brown Smolder applied on lid concentrating more colour on the outer lid and crease. Smudge to center onto bottom lash line.
Inner Lid - Kaboom Kelly applied on inner lid into center of lid.
Inner Lower Lash Line - Lime Alive patted into inner corner for a beautiful pop of colour.
Mascara - LashBlast in Black Brown
Lips - Amazemint Lip Gloss in "Freedom of Peach!"

I loved all the looks and wrote in to tell her. As a makeup artist putting makeup on others and myself, sometimes you just get stuck trying to be creative with colour shadows. I love seeing other makeup artist's techniques and tricks. What do you think of the looks? Would you wear any of them? Have you tried any of the CoverGirl products used?
