Celebrity Beauty Style: Rihanna Rocks The Grammy's!

Music award shows are always hotter, sexier, and edgier - unlike most award shows. I was looking forward to the Grammy's but was not impressed with some of the ho-hum fashion/beauty choices. One star that did not disappoint was Cover Girl's Rihanna, sporting her new shorter 'do (hot!), edgy colbalt-blue Zac Posen cocktail dress, neon orange polish, and natural glowing makeup (perfect for her bright coloured dress). A trend-setter in her own right, she definitely knows how to stand out from the crowd. To recreate Rihanna's look:

Face:
For a bronzy finish, sculpt and shape the cheeks with a shimmery bronzer like Cargo's Bronzer. Swirl onto apples of cheeks and apply more colour near the hairline for a contoured effect.

Eyes:
Make the eyes stand out in warm bronzy-copper tones with Cargo's Eye Shadow Palette in Ibiza. Shade the inner corner with the gold shimmer and the golden bronze shimmer in the outer crease. Line the eyes with a black liner with Cargo's SmokyEye Eyeliner Duo in Katmandu and wing it up and out (apply cream liner first then use the powder over top to set it for extra staying power).

Lips:
For the perfect pinky-nude lip use Cargo's Lip Gloss Quad in Casablanca.

Beauty Style Honourable Mention:

Natasha Bedingfield's makeup and hair was a pretty and modern take on the old Hollywood classic look. Such a fresh look for Spring coming up with the pink cheeks and lips. I loved the royal purple colour of her dress but there was nothing edgy about it.

Grammy Misses:
I usually love Nelly Furtado's style but tonight there was just too much gold goin' on starting with her hair! She just doesn't look fresh and young and it looks like her makeup artist went crazy with the bronzer on her temples! And what happened to blending the makeup?? I loved the colbalt blue dress custom made my Canadian designer Arthur Mendonca but the style just accentuated her hips and draped funny on her.

There's no question that Corinne Bailey Rae can sing, but her fashion choices are questionable. It's like the designer super-sized the sequins on her dress!

Another disappointment for me tonight was Alicia Keys. Her style choices lately have been kind of disturbing - did you see her tight dalmatian pants at the Superbowl performance? Her dress tonight is the least of her problems because her faux-hawk up-do is just wrong. The only thing that looked good tonight was her fuchsia pink lips.

Anyone sick of Beyonce yet? This picture just looks so surreal to me! She usually is a stunner but tonight she kinda looked washed up. Her highlights mixed with low lights were just drab and this Elie Saab coutoure design (whom I usually love) reminded me of a mermaid and blue cotton candy. I loved her eyes but wasn't really a fan of her mocha lip colour mixed with a silvery gloss. And having her sister as an accessory was the worst choice.

Besides her music I don't know what it is about Carrie Underwood that I don't like. Her makeup and hair is pretty standard - nice, and I like the cut of her dress but the floral pattern kind of makes me puke.

I know Fergie is trying to clean up her image by looking less like I-peed-in-my-pants-on-stage and more ladylike, but this plain yellow Calvin Klein design makes her look like a banana. Her hair and makeup were nice, but she should have just stuck with her regular Fergilicious hoochie style. At least she would've looked more interesting.

Oh Fantasia, we know you've had some hard times but why do you gotta let it show? Ok, I give her props for being adventurous and taking a stab at being edgy but it just doesn't work. I just don't get it...

Who were your hits and misses for the Grammy's? Do you agree or disagree with my choices? I'd love to hear it!

I thought Rihanna was gorgeous!

My College daughter's comments on Amy Winehouse: why did she do those tattoos.

Meantime College Girl is a wonderful artist, and as she said to me, one of HER designs would be so much better.

I asked my daughter to do a large cuff bracelet for me from one of her black and white designs. It was an experiment to see if it worked. We used the inside of one of my yarn balls.

They we sealed it.

I'm going to wear it to her event this weekend.
