Save Your Skin: Body

Save Your Skin: Body

Save Your Skin: Body by makeupjunkie13 on polyvore.com

Life has been crazy the last couple of weeks, but crazy in a good way! Well, it's time to get back to gabbing about beauty again! I will have to update you on all the awesome things I've been up to but that will have to wait for another post.

Now where did we leave off? In my last post, it was all about saving the skin on your face but we can't forget your body!

Give your skin some lovin' this winter with some of my latest faves!

1. Korres Guava Shower Gel ($22 CAD): I'm not really a shower gel person, but you might as well start it right. I'll use a body scrubs and the such, but shower gels I usually just pass on. This one, however, I could not pass on because - well - it's Korres! I'm already a fan of the Guava Lip Butter so it was a given that I would love the shower gel too. The scent is just lovely and not overwhelming at all. It has a creamy texture and leaves your skin feeling hydrated and smooth. At $22, consider this a luxurious shower gel but the size is larger than the average shower gel at 400 ml.

2. Korres Jasmine Body Butter ($33 CAD): I have body butters in every corner of my room - one on my vanity, one on my nightstand, and a few in my makeup bins. Korres body butters feel ah-mazing on the skin. It applies very rich and creamy but doesn't leave a greasy feeling behind. My skin feels moisturized for hours. Jasmine is a light flowery scent and thankfully doesn't conflict with the Guava shower gel. The size is very decent and comes in a squeeze tube which I prefer. I definitely want to add more to my collection especially the Guava one!

3. Biotherm Beurre Corporel Intensive Moisturizing Body Butter ($37 CAD): Don't be fooled by the simple packaging. I was pleasantly surprised I would love this so much. Ok, I don't particularly like dipping my fingers, but it's just so creamy and smells citrus-y divine. My boys love it every time I wear this - the scent is very comforting. Oh and yes, my skin feels wonderfully soft! It helps restore hydration into the skin overtime. A little goes a long way so this tub will last you a while - at least until the flowers start blooming again!

4. George's Special Dry Skin Cream ($6.49 - 14.99 CAD): You know the term "don't judge a book by its cover"? This applies here. I love hearing stories about skin care lines that were whipped up in their very own kitchen. It's probably a product I would pass in the store, but thankfully I was able to test drive this cream. This stuff really works especially for severely dry skin conditions. George's products do not contain Urea, Lanolin, or Parabens and are specifically made to be hypoallergenic and fragrance free. I've talked about my son's eczema before and this is the only cream I've been using on him for the last few months. It has replaced all other creams I've used. His skin has been eczema-free and we haven't had to use his medicated cream once. I also use this on my dry, cracked heels and hands - works wonders! It feels greasy when first applied but quickly absorbs into the skin.

Korres is available at Shoppers Drug Mart and Sephora locations across Canada. George's Cream is available at Loblaws and Shoppers Drug Mart locations across Canada.

What do you use to save your skin from the harsh winter?

Products were sent for editorial consideration and I truly love them.

Beauty Feature: Save Your Skin!

Save Your Skin!

Save Your Skin! by makeupjunkie13 on polyvore.com

How's your skin doing this winter? Feeling a little tight? Looking a little flaky and dull? Add not drinking enough water to the mix and lack of sleep and you've got my skin - one big wrinkly mess. I hate to say it, but I've really been noticing my fine lines and wrinkles under my eyes (insert sad face). Well, I'm happy to say I think I have finally found a skin care routine my skin is happy with! This is major. I get to try tons of skincare and I never really commit to anything. I am no longer a commitment-phobe. These lovely products are now a skincare staple!

Spring is just around the corner (wishful thinking) so save your skin now!

1. Korres Wild Rose Face & Eye Serum ($49 CAD, Bestseller): I have found my new serum. While I love my Bobbi Brown one, Korres' has stolen my heart. It's a brightening serum for the eyes and face and it is meant to smooth fine lines. It contains Wild Rose oil, Vitamin C, Baobab gel, Ginseng extract, Quince extract, provitamin B5. Sounds amazing right? It's a multivitamin for your skin. I love how radiant my skin looks. I've only been using it for a week so I haven't noticed a big difference in the appearance of my fine lines, but the brightening effect helps minimize the appearance.

Korres is known for being an all-natural line so I love knowing my skin isn't being fed with yucky chemicals. Another bonus is that you can use it on the eyes like an eye cream - one less product you have to buy. Compared to a lot of serums out there, this is a much more affordable option. It's not cheap by any means, but it's mid-range so it's affordable to most of us. It's a 30 ml bottle so we'll see how long it last, but one pump is all you need to cover the face. This is definitely one serum that I will be purchasing when this one runs out!

2. Korres Wild Rose 24 - hour Moisturizing and Brightening Cream - Normal to Dry Skin ($44 CAD, Bestseller): This with the serum is a powerful combo. I LOVE this moisturizer! I had my favourites from 2011, but this one by far takes the cake! Besides looking uber luminous, my skin feels plush - that's plump and lush. It's so pillow-y soft! The best part is that my skin never has a surprise flaky patch later on in the day. Again, it contains the same ingredients as the serum so your skin is getting double dose of Vitamin C. Your skin will be in repair mode all day long so I have high hopes for my skin! It's a 40 ml container at $44 so mid-range and affordable compared to other brands. Since it's a richer moisturizer, you only need a little at a time. You get the perfect amount of hydration minus the heavy, greasy feeling. Another staple for me!

3. Cover FX Skinprep FX Nourishing Foundation Primer and Anti-Aging Serum ($45 CAD): I love Cover FX. You get high-quality makeup that performs with anti-aging benefits. If you get a chance to see my kit, you'll see many of their primers. While you can use this particular one as a serum at night, I prefer to use it as a primer before foundation especially on drier and mature skin. I use this one on myself because it hydrates my dry skin especially during the winter. Once you apply it, your skin feels extremely smooth and makeup just applies so easily. It really creates a perfect canvas. Because it helps blur out fine lines and pores, you end up having to use less foundation. You're makeup will also wear longer with minimal touch-ups. This is a definite kit staple for me and it should be for you too!

4. Ole Henriksen Black Current Perfecting Complexion Oil ($32 USD): This product is my introduction to Ole Henriksen products. All I can say is that I'm so glad we met! I've come across a few face oils in the past but I never really used them mostly because my skin just felt heavy after. This oil helps protect your skin from the elements and this is definitely something you should use for the cold winters. It also contains Vitamin E that repairs the skin from environmental damage. It's a rich oil so I've decided to make it apart of my night routine and use it like a serum. Surprisingly the rich texture turns into a light, calm, and refreshed feeling on the skin. Mixed with my night cream, my skin feels like butta'! The first time I used it, I couldn't stop touching my face. I even made the hubby touch it! Obsessed with this product. You only need a few drops of this to cover the whole face so it'll last you a while until you have to replenish. Again, the price is mid-range and definitely affordable.

5. Korres Quercetin & Oak Anti-Aging and Anti-Wrinkle Night Cream ($59 CAD, Bestseller): This night cream is no joke. It provides intense anti-ageing nourishment throughout the night. Quercetin and Oak is a clinically proven natural alternative to Retinol. Retinol is used in every anti-aging cream out there so why not go for a natural version that has been proven to achieve faster results? I'd have to say this is richer than my beloved La Mer cream and it's double or even triple the price! It's insane how soft my skin feels after I apply it - I am not exaggerating. My dry skin loves a rich cream, but not if it makes my skin feel greasy and this does NOT. I've been using it for a week and I can already see a difference in the texture of my skin. It's smoother and it's cured my flaky, dehydrated skin! Love, love this stuff.

All products are available at Shoppers Drug Mart across Canada and Sephora.

Fall Beauty Review: Now My Baby and I Have Something In Common - Baby Soft Skin!

Dry, flaky skin can give me a pouty face - okay, my baby and I have two things in common. It's starting to get nippy out which means snow season is rearing it's blustery head. My skin is typically dry and flaky in certain areas and mostly dehydrated. To avoid the sometimes uneasy transition from summer to winter, I've been one step ahead prepping my skin since the summer time. Besides trying to down gallons of water a day, my moisturizers have been my skin savior.

I've been really loving skincare products from Biotherm. In the summertime, I used Biotherm's Aqua Source Deep Hydration Replenishing Gel For Normal to Combination Skin ($45 CAD) religiously. I just loved how light-weight it felt and how fresh it left my skin. It was hydrating enough to keep flakes at bay and even added radiance. It's perfect for skin that is dehydrated, but I felt it worked really well for oilier skin types. It is very hydrating, but if use an appropriate amount works great for oily skin. It doesn't feel heavy and gives you a clean feeling. I even used this on Monica from Beauty Parler on her wedding day! She chose this over my usual Embryolisse which she felt too heavy for her.

As your skin transitions to the colder months, you should always switch up your skincare to something a little heavier. My skin can't get enough of the newest moisturizer from Biotherm. Skin Vivo Uniformity SPF 15 Renovating Anti-Age Moisturizer ($70 CAD) targets all skin irregularities that can make your skin look older (amen!): dark spots, redness, dull tone, roughness and loss of elasticity while protecting skin from harmful UV rays. The texture feels so luxurious on the skin and literally melts into it. At the same time, it doesn't leave a heavy residue. I love how luminous and smooth my skin looks after. I gotta toot my horn a little - my skin is looking fantastic! Really it is! I never have to worry about flakiness popping up throughout the day.

Ever heard of needing your "beauty rest"? If you didn't know, sleep time is your skin's time to repair itself. That's why at night, I don't mind lathering my skin with a richer moisturizer. Clinique's Turnaround Overnight Radiance Moisturizer ($44.50 USD) is a creamy yet light-weight moisturizer that gives your skin a healthy radiance. You wake up with your skin looking smoother, luminous and pores seem visibly smaller! I really love it. It claims to make your skin smoother over time. I've been using it since August and it really does.

Keep in mind, these are creams in a container so to avoid bacteria from mixing into your moisturizer use a spatula instead of your finger. Obviously all are more expensive than your drugstore brand but I believe in investing in good skin care. Makeup is only one aspect of making your skin beautiful!

What do you use to get your skin baby soft? Have you used any of these moisturizers?

Makeup Junkie Holiday Gift Guide 2008: Last Minute Gifts and Stocking Stuffers

It's getting down to the wire and I'm sure many of you like me are scrambling for last minute gifts! Here are some great last minute gifts and stocking stuffers!

1. Pop Beauty Beauty Goddess Clutch ($25 USD): I love all in one palettes and Pop Beauty's all-in-one face palette is the must-have accessory for those holiday parties! Includes eight velvety shadows for endless combinations, one whisper pink and 1 peach bronze cheek glows, and one nude lip glow. You can expect rich, long-lasting colour. An accessory for your face and outfit - what more could a girl want?

2. Liplicious 2-in-1 Moisturizing Lip Colour & Sugar Scrub ($5 USD sale price): I've been looking for a great lip scrub that I don't have to wipe off and because this scrub is brown sugar you just need to lick your lips after buffing for soft, luscious lips in seconds. I like the shade of the lip colour on the other end, however I find it to be a bit drying and very waxy. You also have to be careful when applying the scrub as it disintegrates when warm. I would almost prefer to have the sugar scrub as one product because it is definitely a necessity in this cold, drying weather. But this lil' duo is a great buy for stuffing those stockings and you can beat the price!

3. Panasonic ES-8429 Shaver ($349.95 CAD): Lets not forget the special men in our lives! I love a smooth face I can snuggle with! Your man will no longer have to suffer from nicks and cuts with this shaver. With curved blades, the entire surface fits closely under the chin without problems. In addition, approximately 1,100 foil holes facing in 800 directions catch the hard to reach whiskers under the chin or under the nose. Just placing it against your skin automatically shaves cleanly. "Gives a very close shave that rivals a manual blade", says the hubbie! Once he goes electric he'll never go back!

4. Liplicious Dual Wand Lip Shimmer ($10 USD): New for the holiday season and ultra glamorous to create the perfect pout, this duo comes in a range of shades. The most universal duo is definitely the Platinum Glow and Gold Dust which is a silvery shimmer on one end and a gilded gold on the other. What I like most about this set is the convenience of two colours that work great on their own or to spruce up any shade you already own. Plus they aren't sticky and taste delish! Buy 2 get one free right now! Two for your friend and 1 for you (or vice versa)!

5. SLEEP Black Chamomile Pillow Mist ($10 USD): "The children were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of sugar plums danced in their heads..." With the joy of family bonding, shopping for last-minute gifts and hosting dinner parties, the holiday season always gets the best of us with stress and exhaustion. This limited edition formula of Pillow Mist is enhanced with Chamomile essential oil, rescuing anyone in need of restorative, soothing sleep. At first I thought the scent was too strong but it fades into the sheets leaving a subtle, comforting aroma. This is a great unisex scent that will calm any room, and actually helps when you're aching for sleep. A good sleep is the perfect gift these days!

6. Sothys Homme Skincare: If you're tired of your man secretly using your face wash or lathering his face with your expensive moisturizer, surprise him with his own luxurious yet masculine skincare line! Sothys Homme skincare collection includes Detoxifying Active Cleanser to elimnate impurities and prepare skin for shaving, Exfoliating Scrub to clean pores and eliminate roughness, Hydrating Active Care a light non-oily moisturizer to keep skin supple, and Soothing After-Shave Balm to bring immediate comfort to the skin after shaving. He'll appreciate the masculine scents, packaging, and the look and feel of great skin!

Beauty Review: Clinique All About Eyes?

As soon as I started noticing fine lines around my eyes I was on the hunt for the best eye cream. Not only for fine lines, but for one that would cure my puffy, tired looking eyes. I read tons of reviews on some of the top eye creams but the one that fit within my budget was Clinique All About Eyes. The reviews were mixed but mostly good so I took a chance.

The description promised to help all my aging woes but unfortunately it didn't satisfy all my needs. It's a great moisturizer for the eyes and I haven't seen a flake since I've been using it over 3 months ago. However, I don't feel it's made a noticeable difference in reducing my fine lines, puffiness, and dark circles. The little 15 ml jar at $37 (CAD) is pretty steep, but a little does go a long way. There's still quite a lot of product left after a few months of use. But overall, it was just kind of "meh" to me. So continues my search for THE ultimate in eye creams! Any suggestions? What do you think of this eye cream? Love it? Hate it?

Beauty Review: Winter Ready Hands With Gloves In A Bottle!

Gloves In A Bottle (such a clever name because it really does act like gloves!) is not only great for the dry winter season but anytime of the year especially if you suffer from chronically dry hands. It is a shielding lotion that will cure all your dry-cracked-skin woes away. What is a shielding lotion? It is a lotion that rapidly absorbs into, and bonds with, the outer layer of the skin that creates a protective layer while retaining moisture on the inside. I use it from time to time when my hands get really dry and it cures it right up especially those cracked areas around the nails. The texture is light and non-greasy and does not wash off (and when you have kids you're always washing your hands!). If you're not a fan of scented products this lotion is fragrance free. Another great thing about this is that you only have to reapply every 4 hours or so. Most regular lotions only temporarily alleviate dry skin, but a shielding lotion repairs lost moisture and over time helps build the production of moisture back to your skin. I'm addicted to my yummy smelling lotions so I like to use both together. This way I have a yummy scent plus moisturized hands that lasts for a long time! An 8 ounce bottle is $12.95 each - not bad for something that will last you a long time!

Beauty Products for Moms-on-the-Go! (Part 3)

I forgot to add a cleanser as part of the list! By the end of the night I'm too exhausted to clean my face with a cleanser and water. My M.A.C. Wipes have come in handy on those late nights, early mornings, and when I'm in a rush. I also love to use these when I'm doing shoots because they're fast, easy, and can remove just about anything. They're also great for traveling. It's a cleanser, moisturizer, and toner in one. It has a nice rose water scent and leaves your skin with a fresh healthy glow. A definite must for moms-on-the-go or for anyone-on-the-go which is almost everyone!

Latest Obsessions: Hand Creams and Lip Balms

Lip products have always been an obsession of mine, but lately I've been on a quest for finding the best hand creams. My hands have been looking horrendously dry lately. If you have to hide your hands when you're in public then there's a problem. It's not attractive seeing cracked skin around the nails and cuticles. My husband especially doesn't appreciate the feeling of sand paper every
time I touch him. To solve that problem, I picked up Aveda's sought after Hand Relief Lotion in the travel size of course. It's incredibly moisturizing and has a yummy cinnamon-citrusy scent to it. If you have chronically dry hands I would definitely make this a must-buy.

I had bought the Almond Oil Daily Hand and Nail Cream from the Body Shop last week and I really liked it in the store. It definitely soothed my dry skin, but the more I wore it the more I couldn't stand the scent. It has a very sweet almondy-rose scent that's almost nauseating. The smell is almost as strong as a perfume and it lingers for a long time. It also doesn't come in travel size so it can be pretty bulky in your purse.

The one thing I do love from Body Shop, however, is their Cocoa Butter Lip Care Stick. I love anything cocoa butter. It has a delicious chocolaty scent and keeps these smackers from getting chapped. At $6 a pop I picked up two: one for my home and one for my purse. Plus, every time you buy one you help support Community Trade; by buying ingredients like cocoa butter and beeswax this enables work for farmers in Ghana and North West Zambia and many other great causes.

Along with my Aveda purchase today I also bought Juice Beauty's SPF 15 Tinted Lip Moisturizers. I had been eyeing these for a while and finally decided to try them out. I love my Petting Pink lip conditioner from M.A.C. but it's not always the most convenient when you're walking down the street, pushing a baby stroller and talking on your cell phone. Juice Beauty's organic stick conditioners come in a pack of 3 (how cool is that?!) for $17. When I first opened one it looked kind of rough and not smooth like a normal lip balm. Once you put it on, your lips feel soft but it's not as moisturizing as M.A.C.'s lip conditioners. The colours, however, are awesome! They come in plum-berry (Delightful), red-berry (Playful), and pink-berry (Joyful - what a perfect name!) shades all with a slight shimmer. Each one of them gives your lips that "I've been snogging for hours" look.

I think I've satisfied my hand cream and lip balm craving for now. On to something new! haha

Beauty Products for Moms-on-the-Go! (Part 2)

These are the products I recommend for quick and easy applications.

1. Face: A good moisturizer that gives you a radiant glow like M.A.C.'s Strobe Cream. You can mix with your normal moisturizer if you need more moisture or your favourite foundation for a nice sheer dewy effect. I also love to use this as a highlighter on the cheekbones. *Tip: For darker skin tones I recommend mixing a gold highlighter with your moisturizer.

2. A really good eye cream to calm down those bags and puffy eyes after a night of broken sleep (I am happy to say that my baby boy is finally sleeping through the night!). I've been using M.A.C.'s Fast Response Eye Cream, however, I'm thinking about trying some other new ones - if I can afford it! I really do love this product though. The caffeine in it helps reduce the puffiness and the silicone base acts as an optical illusion to hide fine lines and dark circles. *Tip: The eye area is very delicate. Apply using your ring finger as it uses the least amount of pressure.

3. Tinted Moisturizer with an SPF. I love anything that makes my skin look dewy and fresh. Lately I've been using Stila's Sheer Colour Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 and I'm lovin' it! It's easy to apply and I almost feel like I'm not wearing anything. I don't need a brush and apply it with my fingers like I would a normal moisturizer. It was also featured as Sephora's "Best Of 2006" so that should tell you something.

4. For those that need a bit more coverage or have dark under circles (me!) I would definitely recommend a concealer. A few months ago I was on the hunt for really good concealer and I have found two great ones. The one I've been using currently is M.A.C.'s Studio Finish Concealer Palette SPF 35. It's a heavy duty concealer that comes in Light, Medium, Dark, and Deep Dark. You just apply it with your ring finger. It covers everything from blemishes to tattoos and doesn't crack under the pressure. I never have to retouch it at the end of the day. What I love most, and I'm glad they finally came out with something like this, is that you have 3 colours that you can match to fit your needs. No one has one undertone to their skin. Your under eye can have more of a blue undertone while your skin has a pink undertone. And with an SPF of 35 you can't go wrong. *Tip: Applying the concealer with your ring finger warms it up making it blend easier onto the skin. If you don't like using your finger I recommend the #194 brush from M.A.C.

Face Atelier's Camouflage Duet is another favourite of mine. It has more of a medium to full coverage and has a nice satin finish with a luminous sheen which I love using under the eyes. For you make-up artists out there that don't know (but of course you do!), they have a great pro discount program and it's easy to sign up!

5. Women on the run rarely have the time or energy to put effort into their eyes. The easiest thing you can do to bring out the eyes is highlight the brow bone, inner corner, and center of the eye. It'll make you look fresh and awake. Right now I'm in love with Nars' line of cream shadows especially their newest duo edition in Thebes. One side is a sheer platinum shimmer and the other side is a sheer gold. You can mix them together or wear on their own. Just apply with your ring finger. It is a perfect choice for highlighting the eye. They come in many gorgeous colours and have a lot of pigment yet they glide on sheer. You can also layer them with a powder shadow for a punchier effect.

Some other good ones to try are M.A.C.'s Eye Paints (also finger friendly) in Stilife (icy peach frost), Untitled (pale mauvy-pink shimmer), or Base Light (pale gold shimmer). These suckers are water-resistant and crease proof.

6. A good eye lash curler to open those peepers up. Opening up the eyes will also help you look more alive. My all-time fave is Shu Uemera's. This is a staple in every make-up artist's kit. *Tip: To avoid an unnatural lift, curl your lashes 3 times starting at the base of the lash, then the middle, and if you have long enough lashes at the tip of the lash. This will help give a more natural lift.

7. An amazing mascara. Right now I am obsessed with finding the best mascara for my short-barely-there-stick-straight lashes (damn my Asian genes!). The only ones that give me the lift are waterproof formulas which I don't like to use on a daily basis. I have a few in mind that I will have to try out. I have a few from Maybelline that I have sitting around that I'm willing to give a second chance since I can't afford to buy more right now. However, the one I carry in my kit and is a great all-purpose mascara is Maybelline's iconic pink and green tube of Great Lash Mascara which is celebrating it's 35th anniversary! Congrats! The waterproof one works great on me but like I said in the above. *Tip: Start the mascara at the root of the lash. This will help lift the lash and prevent it from drooping. As you work your way up, wiggle the wand back and forth. Avoid the "wiggle" if you have naturally clumpy lashes.

8. A little bit of blush goes a long way. It not only makes you youthful and healthy but it gives pale tired skin a much needed flush of colour. Anything that is cream-to-powder, gel based, or a stain I love and absolutely recommend when you're on th go. Nowadays, there are so many great products that fit the bill and all of them are blendable with your fingers. I also love multi-purpose products. My favs right now for cream-to-powder is NARS The Multiple in South Beach for a warm peachy hue or Malibu a pinky-brown shade. They have a beautiful shimmer to them that gives your skin a radiant finish. They can be worn on the eyes, lips, and cheeks although I only use mine on my cheeks. Actually South Beach is great on the lips paired with a gloss.

Gel Stains: I love all the Tarte gel Stains. I love the yummy smells and the sheer dewy effect it gives the skin. They're easy to blend and stay put all day. My favourites are Flush (berry-red shade) and Tipsy (a coral peach shade with a touch of shimmer).

Stains: I love Benefit's Benetint Pocket Pal. It's a mini version of Benetint and it's so convenient you can bring it anywhere with you. It has a nice rosy pink hue to give your cheeks a healthy glow. On your lips, it gives a "I've been kissing for hours" look and comes with a clear gloss to help keep your lips moisturized and shiny. *Tip: For creams, stains, or gel blushes always apply only on the apples of the cheeks. They're meant to give you a natural flush. For powder blushes you can extend to the hairline. To find the apple of your cheek, smile!:)

9. The product I'm most addicted to are lip products. I've had to cut myself off from buying glosses because I have too many and I rarely wear them now. Now that I have a baby, I can't help but smother him with kisses. Sticky gloss on his cheek does not go over well with him or my hubby for that matter. On special occasions when I'm going out for drinks or some other event I will slick on the gloss. Other than that tinted lip balms have been my best friend. I'm obsessed with normal lip balms at the moment as well. That's a story for another time. My favourites right now are M.A.C.'s Tinted Lip Conditioners with SPF 15 in Petting Pink (soft pink) and Fuschia Fix (deeper pink). They are super moisturizing and have a yummy vanilla scent to them. The colour is just the perfect amount and goes on sheer. The packaging has also changed and is oh-so chic!

Well, that rounds out my list for now. Stay tuned for my update on finding a liquid bronzer!
