Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day! There are many things we can improve in our everyday life that will make the earth a healthier and happier place to live. Often times I forget that some cosmetics and beauty products can be harmful to the environment. I'll admit that I haven't really paid much attention to ingredients or whether the packaging is environmentally friendly. But I'm starting to pay more attention! I'll be honest, it will be hard to tear me away from my favourite brands but I'm hopeful that all cosmetic lines will start being 100% green friendly!

I found this interesting site called Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep Cosmetic Safety Database. It's an online safety guide for cosmetics and personal care products. Their purpose is to fill in where companies and the government leave off: companies are allowed to use almost any ingredient they wish, and our government doesn't require companies to test products for safety before they're sold. EWG's scientists built Skin Deep to be a one-of-a-kind resource, integrating our in-house collection of personal care product ingredient listings with more than 50 toxicity and regulatory databases. Check it out and see if your favourite brands are earth conscious and healthy for your body!

How is everyone spending Earth Day? Everyday should be earth day! I try to make a conscious effort now whether it be turning off lights in empty rooms, recycling and reusing, or buying organic food but there's definitely more that I can be doing.

Don't forget about TotalBeauty.com's Totally Green Sweepstakes! Check out the site for details - there are many amazing prizes to be won!

This is a great post. Going Green is certainly what's on everyone's minds lately - and that's a great thing too. I also gotta admit I haven't really made much effort to "go green" as I'd like, especially in the makeup department. I think however that even simple steps such as reduce (stop buying so much), recycle (B2M anyone?) and reuse (old compacts can be great lil mirrors, old pots can be good for samples). Every little effort makes a difference. :D
