Beauty Review: Getting Beautiful With Smashbox!

Smashbox Cosmetics has been around for a while now and it wasn't until this year that I started using their products. I had always heard great things about many of their products but never had the interest to try them out. It wasn't until Shoppers Drug Mart started carrying the high-end line that I started buying from Smashbox. The line just seemed more appealing and interesting in a drugstore setting. My first purchases were their Lip Enhancing Glosses in Beauty (pinky-melon true colour) and Pixel (creamy nude true colour). And well, it didn't end there! All of the Smashbox products that I own now take up most of the room in my main makeup bag!

1. Lip Enhancing Gloss in Beauty and Pixel: Winner of Allure's Best of Beauty Editor's Choice Award! This line comes in 3 different textures: sheer, true colour, and full colour. The colours are just beautiful and the textures are smooth and non-tacky. My lips always feel super moisturized. They're in the top 2 of my fave glosses. I love the pinky-melon colour of Beauty. It's a really fresh pink and looks especially great against bronzy skin. Pixel is a great colour any time of the year. It's a great nude that can be worn with a fresh face or paired with a sultry set of eyes.

2. Blush: I was looking for a matte neutral in a rosey-beige tone and picked up Golden Beige which I later learned was being discontinued! It's such a pretty colour and gives the face a natural flush. The downside to it beside it being discontinued is that by the end of the day the colour was gone. I'd look at myself in pictures and gringe at how pale I was! But because I love the colour I've made it work for me by layering it with my bronzer for long-lasting colour. I guess sometimes you have to compromise and make it work??

3. Photo Op Under Eye Brightner: I've been lusting after YSL's Touche Eclat Under Eye Concealer for some time but I just can't justify spending over $50 on one product right now. Smashbox's version doesn't have everything I'm looking for but amazingly works very well! I love using this product before I apply my concealer because it just makes the under eye area look brighter and luminous. It's packed with vitamins and ingredients that are extra nurishing for the eyes. The texture is light and smooth. You can also apply it in the inner corner of the eyes and the brow bone to wake those tired eyes up. If you're circles don't quite look like black eyes, you can get away with wearing it on its own. It's not a huge container but a little goes a long way. The packaging is portable so you can carry it with you any time you need a refresher.

4. Photo Finish Foundation Primer: This product has won so many beauty awards and rightfully so! I received a sample of it and it's probably the top primers I've ever used. The skin just feels so smooth and foundation just glides on perfectly. It covered up my fine lines and my skin looked radiant. My foundation also lasted all day. This is definitely next on my list of wants/needs!

If you've tried any of these products or have tried other ones let me know! Happy shopping!

I'm constantly going back and forth about buying the SB Primer. I guess I can't justify spending so much on a primer when I feel like my foundation should be able to go on smoothly and last all day without anything else. Maybe I'm just lazy and I don't want to add another step to my makeup routine.

Great blog, by the way! I really enjoy reading it. I always find your blog informative. And I appreciate that you're not always raving about new/limited edition products but old faves too.

thanks for your comment and the kind words! I just checked out your blog and I love reading about all your "experiments" with makeup! Yah, I'm sure most of us would like to wish our foundation would stay on all day but most don't. Primers have other added benefits besides keeping your makeup on long. They smooth over fine lines so your foundation won't settle into your pores. Anyways, ask for a sample before making an expensive commitment :) But I'm sure you'll love it! Keep in touch!

Hey Joy!

I keep forgetting that that eye optic product is for brightening the undereyes! I automatically think it's a e/s base or something. I'm gonna try that now!

p.s. Shoppers drugmart is having a x10 optimum points special on November 30th I think. JR sent me the email! haha

I stumbled across your blog during one of my daily cosmetic searches, and after reading through several entries it has found a secure spot on my Favorites!

I have a question about the Smashbox primer, would it still have the same "photo finish" effect if it was used with Bare Escentuals foundation? Or is it more effective with liquid foundation?

Hey Ruby!
I'm glad to be apart of your faves - yay! Thanks for reading my blog! I've used the primer with both liquid and Bare Escentuals and each time it performed wonderfully. A primer is a primer and should work the same no matter what type of foundation you use. :)
